INTRODUCTION
​
Purpose:
  • Support Educational Leaders (ELs) in guiding educators, strengthening relationships with children and families, and embedding consistent, high-quality practice.
  • Align centre practices with NQS Quality Areas, especially QA1, QA4, and QA7.
Role Overview:
  • Mentor and coach educators
  • Oversee curriculum implementation
  • Embed consistency of care across all rooms
  • Support Assessment & Rating preparation
  • Foster strong family partnerships and maintain enrolment
How to Use This Handbook:
  • Follow the sections sequentially or as a quick reference

  • Reflect regularly and document improvements

SECTION 1 — LEADERSHIP & MENTORING
Key Responsibilities:
  • Build trusting relationships with educators
  • Model relationship-focused practice with children and families
  • Support educator professional growth and wellbeing
Practical Guidance:
  • Observe educator-child interactions at least weekly
  • Give timely, constructive feedback
  • Plan mentoring sessions: focus on consistency of care, classroom routines, and engagement strategies
Reflection Prompts:

  • “Where can I provide guidance to strengthen educator-child relationships?”

SECTION 2 — CURRICULUM & PROGRAM PLANNING (QA1)
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure curriculum reflects children’s interests, abilities, and voice (Element 1.1.3)
  • Support educators to implement developmentally appropriate experiences
  • Review program documentation for quality and NQS alignment
Guidance:
  • Conduct weekly program walkthroughs
  • Confirm learning outcomes are linked to observations
  • Provide feedback to educators on quality and engagement
